OK, let me start off by saying that STOMP was AMAZING!!!! They should change the name of the show to "AWESOME"!! I was expecting to be blown away by the beats and the movements, but the show blew me away with so much more. I loved how the actors didn't have lines or even a plot, yet they still each had individual unique characters. I also loved how the show started; at first people didn't know if the sweeping was part of the show or if it was simply a last minute clean up (or at least that's what I was thinking). The beats were so cool, I can.t imagine how long it would take to choreograph something like that or to come up with those beats. I loved meeting the performers. It showed us the difference between them and their "characters". Also it allowed us to hear their reaction to their own show and their lives on tour. I was so mad when their manager made us leave, but I was glad I got to experience a talk-back.
I didn't really notice any elements from Kabuki or Greek theatre, but I'm sure there were some small elements of both.
I think STOMP made me realize that your character is who you make it. Each person in the show had a unique character made by themselves, and that made the show that much better. So now I know that my character, Hong, can only go as far as I let it; which is what Mrs. Laura has been telling us about our character only being words on a paper. If I restrict my character in any way, I am penalizing the show as an entirity.

Lu Lu you and me had very similar reactions to Stomp! It was crazy amazing! I totally agree with the character thing you said. When you restrict your character you damage the show in its entirty. That was a big lesson learned from Stomp. Even though Mrs. Laura always tells us that it was easier to really wrap your mind around it after Stomp. It gave you an example. If any of them did less the show wouldn't have been as awesome. Oh and P.S. Lu Lu, HIS NAME IS JOHN!!! LoL. Not Tim.
ReplyDeleteLarissa I totally agree with you! STOMP was amazing! We had a lot of the same thoughts. lol. And at the beginning of the show I thought the same thing! I even asked Kia if the show started. lol. Wow, you are totally right about restricting our characters. But you are doing amazing with your Hong. lol. =]
ReplyDeleteHa, you and I both. I loved Stomp. In the beginning, I was pretty sure that it was supposed to start like that. But I afraid that it wasnt meant to happen. So, I was like "Oh..." But I agree with you. Although I was disappointed because we didn't get to interact with the actors one on one like I was expecting, but it was still a good deal.
ReplyDeleteHeyy Larissa you and me basically thought the same way about STOMP! I totally loved it! It made me want to go home and POUND on a bunch of bowls and go sweep up the kitchen or something!
ReplyDelete:) :) :) :) :)
Yea I agree with you Stomp was really good and your right about characters being who you make it but them making their characters their own did make it alot better.
ReplyDeleteLast minute clean up? LAST MINUTE CLEAN UP??! Yea, the beats were really great. I didn't expect the cast to have a lot of character. That was something that caught me off guard.
